The tone on tone Victorian Steel Petite Hexagon Étui measures about 3 1/4" tall and is about 3" wide. The exterior is covered in Steel jacquards and velvet and is accented with a vintage sheer black scalloped trim, 13mm, 7mm and 3.5mm Steel silk ribbons, narrow black Venice lace trim, black metallic thread and an assortment of tiny beads and sequins.
The étui's hidden construction elements are cardboard, wool felt and wool roving.
Upon removing the lid, a vibrant Viola interior and a Chartreuse velvet pincushion create the completely unexpected inside surprise.
The exterior half-circle accents on each outer panel utilize the Gibb U-Gather ribbonwork technique. Tiny beads accent the Lid Strip scalloped edge and the Lid edge. At the lid center is a velvet-covered magnet with a bead and sequin surround. The lid can also be used as a tray.
MJ's handcrafted, hexagon-shaped Victorian Steel étui has been designed as a beautiful place to hold favored hand-sewing needles and pins, but would just as easily display a collection of treasured brooches.
This one-of-a-kind piece will arrive with a petite booklet included, signed and dated by MJ, that describes the étuis intricacies and unique qualities as written here. The construction and finishing used to create this étui is of couture quality.
Etui: From the 17th century French verb estuier, to hold, and its nominal derivative estui, a holder/container, an étui is a small, decorative case that was used to hold and carry sewing items, sealing wax or toilet articles. The etui was designed to be a portable fashion accessory, a kind of predecessor to the handbag.
