MJ's handcrafted Scalloped Seashell is covered in the rich shades of Cinnamon, Brown Garnet and Tomato silk jacquards, with a surprise interior of Marigold silk velvet. The complex seashell shape is handcut and formed from various types of cardboard in the style of cartonnage, the art of French box making. The vibrant interior is tufted with 2mm pearls. The construction and finishing used to create this scalloped seashell box is of couture quality with many hand-sewn hidden elements.
The scalloped seashell box measures about 7 1/2" wide x 6" and stands about 2" tall. The gently puffed Tomato silk jacquard lid is accented with Cinnamon dyed lace and both Cinnamon and Brown Garnet 3.5mm fluted silk ribbons. On the lid's front edge are sewn tiny ecru seed beads with bicone crystals. The beaded barnacles along the lid back edge are formed from layered seed beads, fresh water pearls, lochrosen and French sequins.
The lid's finishing touch is a 13mm silk ribbon sea anemone formed from a unique ribbonwork techqnique, using Plum, Brown Garnet, Cinnamon, Salmon, Coral and Sand silk ribbons. At the sea anemone center is a vintage, oversized pearl ball button.
The lower edge of the box side is accented with 7mm fluted silk ribbons in Brown Garnet and Cinnamon, lightly ruffled Cinnamon French lace and tiny ecru seed beads, all creating graphic elements to further enhance the seashell's graceful shape.
This one-of-a-kind piece will arrive with a petite booklet included that describes the seashell's intricacies and unique qualities as written here, along with a label on the box bottom signed and dated by MJ.
